Our Student Program

Micah House enrolls one student intern at a time.

Preference is given to internships that follow the entire academic year (September through March) but we will also consider (4 month) internships for the fall semester and the winter semester.  Application deadlines for:
The Academic Year – September through March – August 10th.
The Fall Semester – September, October, November, December – August 10th.
The Winter Semester – January, February, March, April – November 15th.

Here is a short list of things that will help you to decide if you should apply.

  • Internships are not paid positions.
  • Interns should be available a minimum of two consecutive days per week (16 hours minimum total per week)
  • Transportation for Micah House business is reimbursed.
  • Micah House has WSIB coverage. We also carry private liability insurance.
  • Second language skills are an asset – Spanish, French and/or Arabic.
  • Interns report to the Executive Director.
  • Interns are assigned to one major project to oversee and manage. They will also be assigned up to two client files (intake, orientation, appointment scheduling and more) and practice most aspects of the refugee claim process.
While all disciplines will be considered, most successful applicants are enrolled in sociology, social work, psychology, international studies, conflict studies, newcomer & immigration studies, law, or seminary studies.
Applicants will submit a resume, a cover letter outlining their expectations and three references (to the Executive Director).
